It’s that time of year, again: time to renew or begin your IPMA-HR membership!

The benefits of membership in the Albany-Capital Region Chapter of IPMA-HR are easy to identify - workshops and seminars that provide training on current HR issues and a chance to network with fellow New York State HR colleagues. Beginning last year, Albany-Capital Region Chapter membership now entitles you to Affiliated IPMA-HR International membership. Did you know that our Chapter is just part of a much larger organization?

The Albany-Capital Region Chapter of IPMA-HR is one of a number of Chapters up and down the East Coast belonging to the Eastern Region IPMA-HR. They include:

Connecticut

Greater New York City

Harrisburg, PA,

Montgomery County, MD

New Jersey

Text Box:

Rhode Island

Southeast Massachusetts

Western PA

Southeast PA

West Virginia

The Eastern Region Executive Board supports its chapters and offers additional professional HR training and networking opportunities. Eastern Region sponsored events and programs include the Annual Training and Development Conference, which promotes best practices of Public Sector HR Management; the Outstanding Awards Program, which acknowledges excellence in the field of Human Resource Management at the individual and organizational levels; and the Scholarship Program, which awards students and professionals to encourage them to continue their professional development via education, certification and conference participation. The Eastern Region also publishes the Easterly Winds newsletter that provides news and information about local Chapters and they maintain their own website at www.ipma-er.org.

The Eastern Region, in turn, is part of IPMA-HR International, which consists of the Western, Central, Southern, and Eastern U.S. Regions and Chapters world-wide. IPMA-HR provides a variety of benefits including: IPMA-HR publications; participation in scholarship, fellowship and award programs and taskforces; discounts on conferences and workshops; recruitment services; and the internationally recognized IPMA-Certified Professional (IPMA-CP) and IPMA-Certified Specialist (IPMA-CS), which are designed specifically for individuals who are currently employed in public sector human resources. Professional IPMA-HR certification designations can help you to advance your career by giving you the opportunity to pursue continuing education, increase your involvement in the profession, and receive industry-wide recognition. For more information regarding IPMA-HR, log on to their website at www.ipma-hr.org .

In the past, those wishing to join IPMA-HR International paid dues separate from and in addition to their local chapter membership dues. In an effort to better align and strengthen all levels of the Association, the IPMA-HR International Executive Council has established a united membership structure. This means that IPMA-HR Albany Capital Region chapter members receive affiliated IPMA-HR International membership upon payment of their Albany Capital Region IPMA-HR chapter membership dues. As a new IPMA-HR International affiliated member, you will receive the weekly HR Bulletin and the IPMA-HR member rate for all IPMA-HR development activities.

As part of the implementation of the united membership, the Albany Capital Region Chapter of IPMA-HR will owe IPMA International $25 for every member to be an affiliated member at the national level. Since we only charged $35 for membership last year, this has necessitated that we increase our rate for membership next year. We are now offering a one year membership for $55.00, covering the period July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009. This price includes the cost of Albany Capital Region IPMA-HR membership PLUS the cost of the Affiliated IPMA-HR International membership dues. Retirees and full-time undergraduate students pay just $15. Full time graduate students pay just $40. Please note that although we are now charging $55, the Albany Capital Region IPMA-HR chapter will be taking a cut of $5 per person next year. However, we still hope to provide you with the same quality programs that you received this year.

As a member of the Albany Capital Region Chapter of IPMA-HR and affiliated member of IPMA-HR International, you receive the following:
